What are Uterine Fibroids?
Uterine fibroids are smooth, muscular non-cancerous growths that form in the uterus. They can range in size from tiny to larger than a golf ball. It is estimated that over 30% of women develop them by age 35, and increases with age. Uterine fibroids have been known to cause no problems, and oftentimes go undetected.
What are symptoms of Uterine Fibroids
- Heavy menstrual bleeding that can lead to anemia or blood loss
- Painful cramps
- Pain in the lower back or abdomen
- Pain with intercourse
- Difficulty getting pregnant
- Pelvic bloating
What are the risk factors of Uterine Fibroids
- Age (older women are at higher risk than younger women)
- African American race
- Obesity
- Family history of uterine fibroids
- High blood pressure
- No history of pregnancy
- Vitamin D deficiency
- Food additive consumption
- Use of soybean milk
